What is BERIFFA-IX?

A neutral Layer-2 Internet Exchange Point that lets networks exchange IPv6 traffic directly — reducing latency, cost and dependency on transit.

↓

Low latency

Keep Danish and Nordic traffic local. Shorter paths mean better performance for your users and customers.

$

Lower costs

Exchange traffic with peers on a cost-neutral basis instead of sending everything through expensive transit providers.

◇

More resilience

More direct paths improve redundancy and help you avoid congested upstream links when they occur.

○

IPv6-only & open

Built for the modern Internet. Unicast IPv4: No · Multicast: No · IPv6: Yes. Open to any network with a public ASN.

How to connect

BERIFFA-IX supports multiple connection methods so you can join the way that fits your network best.

Physical port

Cross-connect into the IX switch fabric in Copenhagen. Ideal for networks already present in the same facility.

  • 1G / 10G / 100G ports
  • Direct Layer-2 access
  • Full MTU support

Local VLAN

Extend your existing presence in the data centre with a VLAN to the exchange. Fast and simple when you’re already on-site.

  • No extra physical port needed
  • Works with most facility partners
  • Quick activation

Tunnels

Connect remotely using common tunnel protocols. Perfect for networks that are not yet in the same building.

  • GRETAP / VxLAN / Geneve
  • ZeroTier support
  • Setup in minutes

All members can peer multilaterally via route servers or bilaterally with other participants. IPv6 only — no IPv4 or multicast on the peering LAN.

Looking glass

A public looking glass is not available at this time. Looking glass services require dedicated infrastructure and access controls. Once deployed, members will be able to query route-server state and BGP views from the exchange. For routing questions today, contact the NOC at noc@beriffa.com.

Traffic stats, IX-F & health check

Traffic statistics website, IX-F member list export URL and health-check endpoint are not published yet. These will be added when the monitoring and export infrastructure is ready. Until then, capacity and traffic graphs on this page cannot load.

Capacity & traffic

Live graphs and capacity metrics require a traffic-stats backend. That service is not online yet.

Traffic graphs

Unable to load graphs

Traffic statistics are not available. Graphs will appear here once the stats platform is connected.

Capacity overview

Unable to load capacity data

Port capacity and utilisation metrics will be published when monitoring is enabled.

IX-F member export

Not available

An IX-F JSON member list URL is not configured yet. It will be listed here and in PeeringDB when ready.

Why networks join

Internet Exchange Points exist so that traffic between networks does not have to travel via expensive and longer transit paths.

Cost control

Replace a portion of paid transit with settlement-free peering.

Performance

Shorter paths and fewer hops improve latency and jitter for end users.

Control

You decide who you peer with and how traffic is engineered.

Community

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about joining and using BERIFFA-IX Copenhagen.

What is an Internet Exchange (IX / IXP)?

An Internet Exchange Point is infrastructure (physical or hybrid) that allows networks — ISPs, CDNs, cloud providers and others — to exchange traffic with each other, usually on a cost-neutral basis. Direct peering reduces the need for transit, lowers latency and improves resilience.

Is membership free?

Yes. There is no membership fee charged by BERIFFA-IX itself. You only need a public ASN and the ability to connect (physically, via VLAN or via tunnel). Any facility or transport fees charged by data-centre or connectivity partners are separate.

Why IPv6 only? No IPv4 or multicast?

BERIFFA-IX is designed as an IPv6-only exchange (Unicast IPv4: No, Multicast: No, IPv6: Yes), aligned with Beriffa Group’s IPv6-first network (AS219271 · BERIFFANET). The peering LAN is 2a0c:b641:91a:10::/64.

What do I need to join?

A public Autonomous System Number (ASN), your own IPv6 address space, and a way to reach the exchange (cross-connect, VLAN or tunnel). If you still need an ASN, Beriffa Group can help with registration via RIPE.

Which connection types are supported?

Physical ports, local VLANs, and tunnels (GRETAP, VxLAN, Geneve and ZeroTier). Exact options available at the Copenhagen location depend on the facility partners — contact us for the current list.

Is there a looking glass or traffic graphs?

Not yet. Looking glass, traffic statistics, capacity graphs, IX-F member export and health-check endpoints require dedicated infrastructure that is not online. When available they will be linked from this site and PeeringDB. Contact the NOC for routing questions in the meantime.

How do I start peering?

Once your port or tunnel is active you can establish BGP sessions with the route servers for multilateral peering, or set up bilateral sessions with individual members. We provide configuration examples and technical support to get you running quickly.

Ready to peer in Copenhagen?

Join BERIFFA-IX and start exchanging IPv6 traffic with other networks. Membership is free — all you need is an ASN and a connection.
